Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum
The Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum opened in 1994 as a decorative arts museum and one of the three in its kind in the world devoted to the art of jewelry. The permanent collection displays, more than 4,500 original artifacts designed by the renowned Jeweler, Ilias Lalaounis (dating from 1957 – 2010); historical decorative arts from Europe (dated after 1750), as well as, contemporary artistic jewelry (dated from 1971 until today) donated from artists and private collections.
The ILJM organizes temporary exhibitions with decorative arts unknown to the wide public. The museum’s cutting-edge educational programs and innovative live workshops aim to continuously introduce new museum cultural education, for all ages throughout the year. The ILJMuseum is the first museum in Greece, designed for people with special needs and to offer internships for young academics. Today the newly established artist in Residence program in the live workshops benefit both creators and visitors, while demonstrating traditional and contemporary jewelry techniques.
The ILJM live jewelry workshops, the unique guided tours, the Museum Shop, and the ILJMuseum Café with the amazing view of the Acropolis Hill, offer a comprehensive cultural visit starting with a fascinating view of the life work of Ilias Lalaounis.
