MOBY DICK RETURNS. ONE OF THE GREATEST WORKS OF WORLD LITERATURE EVER WRITTEN IS MADE INTO A MUSICAL BY DIMITRIS PAPADIMITRIOU, DIRECTED BY GIANNIS KAKLEAS.
The monumental confrontation of human with God, time travel, and a musical. Culture, as construed by the Onassis Foundation, goes out and travels in the city, comes down to the center of Athens and stands up for its timelessness. Respecting the past, yet avoiding nostalgia or idealization, Onassis Culture looks to the future. This time, it heads toward the Christmas Theater, collaborates with two of the greatest Greek artists in the field, and they travel together in time, in one of the most influential novels of all time, the tale of Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Friendship, Human Fate and God on the stage of Christmas Theater.
A plain tale or an eternal generator of ideas? The most adapted book since its first edition in 1851 comes on stage at Pallas. The story of a captain who wants to take revenge by killing a massive white whale which, on a previous voyage, has attacked his crew, him and also his ship, seems to be the very story that humanity, as we know it today, is in great need of. A multilayered Moby Dick.
A BREATHTAKING ADVENTURE ABOUT LIFE AT SEA AND WHALING TAKES SHAPE AND IS BROUGHT TO STAGE AT CHRISTMAS THEATER.
In this work, captain Ahab ends up being the most heartwarming Saint. He asks with unrivalled bravery to be sacrificed, so that his need for freedom and love is heard by the indifferent and merciless Father. And, just like any Saint, he has taken with him his whole crew, which is the audience that has to “take sides” among the idealist defender of Truth Ahab, the brave first mate Starbuck, the second mate Stubb, and the chronicler Ishmael. Because, as happens with every masterpiece, Moby Dick is an eternal generator of ideas. As long as you gather the right concepts in the same tale, they in turn never cease to reproduce and be reproduced.
Dimitris Papadimitriou, in collaboration with Giannis Kakleas, brings to Christmas Theater the story that has marked him for life. A story that is timeless for many. Moby Dick gives words up and is presented with emotion in a breathtaking adventure about life at sea and whaling, using 3D graphics and holograms.
